- Lisa: I hate going to the zoo. I have compassion for animals.
- Homer: Lisa, the zoo opened a whole new world for animals. In nature, they would never experienced boredom, obesity, the loss of a purpose ... You know, the American dream.
— Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XVI (2005), s17e04
- Burns: You are here to participate in the most dangerous game in the world. What I will hunt .... is you. Now, since I'm too nice, I'll give you a lead of five minutes. You can start to run!
- Jeff: Five minutes of racing? Shoot me now.
The journey to happiness wasn’t an overnight express; change and healing took Kano time. The first step was having the realisation that she was unhappy, despite all of her achievements.I really believed (at the time) that my achievements defined who I was; I was the producer for the X Games at ESPN, a sub-three hour marathoner, living in Boston no less. But those are just sexy titles that literally mean nothing when push comes to shove because let’s be real, who cares? “If you can prioritise what your soul really needs, everything can change,” says Kano, who has zero regrets about packing and moving to the mountains. When it comes to taking your own steps, always come back to what makes you happy suggests Kano, whether it’s fitness, nutrition, health or life decisions. “I now approach individual elements of my life, like health and nutrition, the way I approach most things – I do what will make me happy.”(Nota: augi narcisismo/solipsismo. Cfr American Beauty.
[...]Trail running gives me a lot. It gives me what I need right now. It gives you the chance for an experience every time. There’s adventure, wilderness, freedom, solitude, self-discovery, self-affirmation and accomplishment. As a runner to a runner I would say, it is the ultimate in what running can give you.” Kano is no longer defined by titles, but in her own words, by her “family, friends, work, running, snowboarding, nature, balance, adventuring, loving people and letting people love me.” [...] Life is about being happy and balanced, and if you achieve those two things, everything else works out. The happier I am, the better I run. The better everything is really.
“The history of Gamkaskloof has always interested me, the community was resourceful group of people that were 100% self sufficient and isolated from the rest of the country. It was only in 1962 when a road accessing the valley was complete that the community fell apart, only when societal influence and modern living interrupted their way of life”, said (Andrew) King.
“Running is hard work and there is no hiding from taking one step in front of the other to get somewhere else. It is honest, hard work, that will expose your weaknesses,” says (Scott) Jaime. “In everyday life, modern conveniences steal from the truth though. Running for long periods of time requires just as much mental preparation as it does physical. Learning to become comfortable being uncomfortable allows me to endure more.”
(Jaime believes) “The people of Die Hel were resourceful, deliberate, passionate, and happy. We on the other hand, have gotten so far from the simplicity of it all and feel the more we have the happier we will be. My visit to Die Hel taught me that the opposite is true. The less you have, the more grateful and happy you become. “
“We are not advocating that everyone sell all their processions and return to the stone age, but I do think that there is immense value in critically assessing what real contribution all these material possessions are making to your life,” said King.
And aside from getting out on the trails and experiencing freedom from the constraints of society, Jaime suggests changing the way you live over time.
“Implement small things over a long period of time. For instance, plant a garden, eat whole foods from local farms, and most importantly educate the next generation so they can pass it on. Each year tally the things you've done to make your life simple, you'll be surprised of all the small changes that add up to a much greater good.”
This is uploaded as part of a series! Cool. Salomon Running TV s04e06. No special interviews nor back-the-scenes for the festival.
While filming the UTMB may not be as tough as actually taking part, Francois Tornier, owner of Outdoor-Live.com, discusses his experience of filming Nuevos Pasos [...] Tornier begins by explaining why Outdoor-Live.com chooses to document stories of elite athletes in niche sports. [...] “We tend to focus on smaller sports like trail running because of what champions in those disciplines are made of. They all achieve amazing performances with little support, but with such a strong determination and dedication. Focusing on someone like Luis was a great way to immerse in this culture and focus on a very iconic runner,” said Tornier, who makes mention that Hernando’s fame and popularity is second only to Kilian Jornet in Spain.
The actual race was difficult for Hernando, and he hit a wall at the half way mark. With 50mi to go, Tornier captures the moment Hernando steps into an unknown world, a world where determination and persistence outweigh physical ability. “He’s a real competitor and he always runs for the win, but we captured the rare occasion where he has to switch his focus from winning to simply completing the race.” It’s a moment when the viewers realize that even the best of the best have their demons and are just normal people. This unusual moment, seldom caught on film, differentiates the movie from others and isn’t simply a result of Tornier following Hernando’s every step.
Trail running is an unpredictable subject, from weather, last minute route changes and sickness, to injury and personal issues.
Mile for Mile aims to raise awareness about the recently commissioned Patagonia Park and the ongoing efforts of to Conservacion Patagonica, an organization responsible for establishing innovative conservation policies in the Aysén region of Chile founded by the late Doug Tompkins. (Holy shit! This guy died of hypothermia because of kayak tiping at 4c at age 72.)
"106 miles through the newly opened Patagonia Park in Chile to celebrate and highlight Conservacion Patagonica's efforts to re-wild and protect this vast landscape," comments Alison Kelman, Communications Director for Conservacion Patagonica.
Y fuerza ante la caída y lo imprevisto: "conquering a 100 mile race can be both transcendent and agonizing" (entrevista). Cuidado con la generalización de después: "a universal story about the power of the human body".
Mini profiles: The sport of ultrarunning has taught Rob [Krar] to embrace the cliché of never say never. [Caroline Boller] Originally from England, she holds dual British and American citizenship. Karl Hoagland has been the Publisher of UltraRunning Magazine since June, 2013.
Sharlto Copley on the unique experience making 'Chappie'. His body movements are scanned into the animated character: "he's disturbingly me".
Publicidades varias:
