The driving question is not why am I suffering? or why does this happen to me?, nor is ultra running a masochistic pursue alone. It is rather about embracing the pain to strive to something else. Roll even talks in his book about surrendering to the ego, letting go of the struggle, but just to access another point of view while keeping on the move. The motivational battle gets impulsed by the curiosity of stating what if I can go further than I had thought?.
